Terms of Use
These terms cover Brightword (“we”, “us”): the app, its widgets and this website. By downloading or using it, you agree to these terms.
Your license to use the app
Your right to use Brightword is granted under Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the “Standard EULA”). These terms add to it. Where the two disagree about the license itself, the Standard EULA applies.
Brightword Pro
Each day’s verse on your widgets and Lock Screen is free. Brightword Pro adds more, such as further background collections and wallpapers. The plans, prices and any free trial are shown in the app before you buy, in your local currency. Prices and what Pro includes may change; a change in price never applies to a period you’ve already paid for.
Subscriptions and automatic renewal
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase or, if you start a free trial, when the trial ends.
- A subscription renews automatically for the same length (a month or a year) unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Your Apple Account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends. If the price ever goes up, Apple tells you before it applies and, where required, asks you to agree.
- A free trial is available only where the app shows one, and Apple decides whether your Apple Account is eligible. If you cancel during a trial, you won’t be charged. If you buy a subscription during a free trial, any unused part of the trial ends.
- A discounted offer renews at the discounted price shown for as long as you stay subscribed without a break.
Cancelling
You can cancel at any time in the iPhone Settings app: tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Brightword. In Brightword, Settings > Manage subscription opens the same place. After you cancel, Pro stays on until the end of the period you’ve paid for. Deleting the app doesn’t cancel a subscription.
Refunds
Apple handles all payments, so Apple decides every refund under its own policies; we can’t issue refunds ourselves. To ask for one, use Settings > Request a refund in Brightword or visit reportaproblem.apple.com. If a refund is granted, Pro from that purchase ends.
Lifetime
Lifetime is a single payment with no subscription. It gives you Brightword Pro on your Apple Account for as long as Brightword is offered. If we ever stop offering Brightword, the app you’ve installed keeps working offline with Pro as it is then, but we won’t add new collections or updates.
Gift codes
We sometimes give Brightword Pro as a gift, with a code you redeem through the App Store. A gift code gives you Brightword Pro on your Apple Account for one year from the day you redeem it, with nothing to pay. It doesn't renew, so there's nothing to cancel; when the year ends, Pro ends unless you choose to subscribe. Other codes we share, such as an offer from someone you follow, start a subscription offer instead; the App Store shows what a code gives and what happens after, before you redeem it.
Restoring
Your purchase belongs to your Apple Account. On a new or reset iPhone, sign in with the same Apple Account and tap Restore on the Brightword Pro page.
Scripture and our content
Scripture in Brightword comes from the Berean Standard Bible (BSB), which its publisher has dedicated to the public domain, and the King James Version (KJV), which is in the public domain in the United States.
The prayers, affirmations and other writing in Brightword are written by us. They, the background pictures and the app’s design belong to us or are licensed to us. You may use them within the app for your own personal, non-commercial use, and you may share the verse pictures the app makes with friends and on social media. Please don’t copy, sell or republish our content outside the app without our permission.
Using Brightword well
Please don’t misuse the app: don’t try to get around its purchase system, interfere with how it works, or use it to break the law. Your notes and saved items are stored on your device; you are responsible for keeping your device backed up.
Not professional advice
Brightword offers scripture, prayers and encouragement for daily life. It isn’t pastoral counseling, medical or mental health care, or crisis support. If you are struggling or in danger, please reach out to someone you trust or a local professional. In an emergency, call your local emergency number; in the United States you can also call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
Disclaimers and limits
We work hard to keep Brightword reliable, but it is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties beyond those the law requires. We don’t promise that it will always be available, free of errors, or that every widget or notification will appear on time, because iOS decides when widgets refresh and notifications are delivered.
To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses arising from your use of Brightword, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for Brightword in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the consumer laws where you live that can’t be limited by agreement.
Changes
We may update these terms as Brightword changes. We’ll post the new version here with a new effective date. If you keep using Brightword after a change, the new terms apply.
